G's Chinese Program

Last night was G's Chinese program at school.  It was nice on several levels.  First of all ,I have never met a second grader who greeted all his buddies with a big hug.  G does.  Every kid he came to in the hall he would call their name and give them a big hug-- perhaps it was just the excitement of the evening.  There was clothing that the kids could dress up in to have their pictures taken with the panda posters in the hall (mine chose pics without costumes).
The program was not the whole 2nd grade, but only G's class.  They sang their song in English, then in Chinese, and then some of the students added an authentic chinese fan dance to the song.  Lovely.  G can be seen in the top row with the glasses.
After the class performed there was a cultural dance group who showed us the dragon dance and several others.  Terrific!  All 3 boys were enthralled.  I loved the dragon dance as well.
One thing I noticed is that the kids know more Chinese language than they realize.  Their teachers seem to use immersion Chinese teaching because as the teacher spoke she would say certain things to the class that they would understand and do or respond appropriately.  As much as the boys whine about going to Chinese class some day they will appreciate it more.  love and hugs, B
