I am at wit's end with the nail biter. He is nearly six and has been biting for 3 years. Pics provided to show you what extreme he is at currently.
He is out of any nail to actually bite so he uses his teeth to scrape back the top layers of nail. It turns my stomach to look at them. Disgusting? Yes. Destructive? Yes. Addictive? Yes. We have tried many different avenues to breaking this. I am back around to the first thing I tried 3 years ago and put clear polish over what is left of his nails to try to protect them from him during school today. I am at the point that I may have to simply work on my attitude about nail biting and not let it annoy me so much----except I made those nails, it took months! Please comment or email and offer any solutions you can think of.
Second problem in need of a solution is this:
Now stop lurking and come up with some workable solutions to save G from having deformed hands and save me from having to go into therapy for my 5 year old's nail biting, B

Over here the chemist (um... pharmacy? drug store?) sells stuff called Stop'n'Grow. You paint it on like nail polish but it tastes foul and is supposed to deter nail biters/thumb suckers, etc. Horrible but worth a shot, maybe?
