Emergency Vehicles

A church here sponsors a blessing of First Responders (EMT, police, fire) each year and this is the first year we have gone. As well as the ceremony, there are all sorts of emergency equipment for the kids to try and officers to talk to. We had a great time trying everything out, except the ambulance-- scarred from our previous experience perhaps. M was excited to see the ambulance from the outside, but not much for the walk-through. Pics below. Yes, there is one of me on the police motorcycle. The officer insisted that if all the kids had to sit through having their picture taken, I did too.

Last set of pics is from the garden. If you put corn starts out here in mid June, then by the end of September you have tiny, tasselling ears. Cauliflower is finally coming on since the weather cooled down.

I pulled all my green tomatoes off the vine 2 weeks ago in frustration. I did find that wrapping them in newspaper and putting them in small layers in brown paper bags works to force them to ripen. If you try it check them every other day and move them to windowsill when they start to get pink. I got about 75% of what I brought in to ripen this way!
love and hugs, B

Went went to a 'Touch-a-Truck' event that was similar. They had all sorts of vehicles in addition to emergency vehicles - tractors, a UPS truck, delivery trucks, the Hershey Kiss Mobile, boats. The kids loved it.
