Pitter Patter of Little Feet

Somehow Mommies have a sense when their children are awake and moving around. Even from the deepest sleep, we know. And I always expect this wakefulness to be trouble. One night this week I could sense someone awake. Then there was the shuffle of little, footy PJ feet on carpet up the hall.
"M?"
"Yes."
Three more shuffles down the hall.
"M, do you need to go potty?"
Shuffle, shuffle toward bathroom.
"You want help?"
Shuffle, shuffle changing direction toward me.
" M, you need to go potty?"
Shuffle, shuffle to the side of my bed.
"You OK?"
"Hi Mommy. I just need a hug."
And with that how could I refuse. M got his hug (and a kiss) and then happily held my hand to shuffle back up the hall and snuggle back into his bed.
Sweet, sweet baby (don't tell him I called him a baby-- he resents that label).
love and hugs and wishing everyone the sweet shuffling of little feet of sweet children who just need a quick hug in the middle of the night, B

Phew! I thought this story was going to end up with you cleaning up vomit. That's how it usually turns out when Nick gets up in the middle of the night.
