One Decade Ago

I can't believe it has been a decade since E was born. He has matured so much in the past few months. He is a good kid: clever, cute, kind, sneaky (that's good for stealing bases in baseball) Official birthday is tomorrow but due to baseball the celebrations happened over the weekend.

E chose to celebrate by having a friend for a sleepover on Friday. Super kid-- so glad he was the first friend E made here. They had a good time watching a baseball game and playing video games.

Sunday morning we decided E could choose lunch and an activity for the family celebration. When we told him he could pick anywhere he wanted for lunch he took time and thought it over and chose Strawberry Street Cafe--a Richmond favorite. D then suggested we take a family walk to Belle Island. E is drawn to this because you have to cross a long bridge suspended beneath the interstate to get there.

It was a good day for it with clouds rolling around keeping the heat away. The walk along the river is spectacular and the kids wanted to play in the water. That made me nervous since they don't swim and the water was swift due to lots of recent rain.

What E didn't remember from the times we went when we lived here before was the ruins of buildings and such left from the civil war and various industries that ran on the island. The kids had a good time exploring some of these and E read every plaque explaining them.

A last photo from Belle Island of the 3 munchkins.

After dinner at home E chose ice cream sundaes instead of cake this year. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to struggle through designing a cake, but also a bit relieved since things have been so busy.

Happy, happy birthday to our biggest boy!
