100 degrees. And summer has not officially started. One of the many things we had so quickly forgotten about the east coast when we relocated to the west coast 3 years ago. I had also forgotten that the climate here makes it ripe for bugs, snakes, lizards and toads. Lots of lizards and toads in our yard. My only run in with a snake so far has been on the road today. I hit him--hard. Yes, God's creatures and all that but my natural instinct is to kill them. Stay away from me if you are a snake.
That reminds me. I am on a committee for our Homeowner's Association and I think the Board has forgotten that the position is a VOLUNTEER POSITION. That means no pay and you don't dictate a bunch of deadlines to me because I will leave you high and dry since I don't need your paycheck since there is no paycheck. Also, things would get done more quickly if those who are so concerned about their business and the message would step back. It is not a business or a message to me-- it is my home. These are not just my neighbors-- they are becoming my friends. I love my committee because they let me rant a bit last night and they have got my back. Obviously I have a bit of rant left in me. Sorry.
Took the kidlets to the pool for the first time this year. Again, those 3 years in a decent climate put me at a disadvantage the first day at an outdoor pool on a sunny 98 degree day. Must remember more sunscreen on upper body parts( triple layer the face: reflection off the water is vicious) but for M it is not necessary where the life jacket covers. We joined a small square pool with no interesting features. My goal for this year is to get 2 of them to swim. From the first day out I say E and M have the best chance. E is a bit embarrassed that kids his age are swimming like fish on swim team so he is motivated to get out of the shallow end. M just enjoys the water: laying on his back in his life jacket, eyes closed kicking the legs to scoot himself around the pool and
singing at the top of his lungs. True. He had an absolute ball just floating and singing to himself. Super fun to watch. I told them that if 2 will learn to swim well enough that I don't have to constantly watch for their lifeless bodies at the bottom of the pool, we will join a fancy pool with a slide or water squirting things.
G gave me a wonderful birthday gift. He worked on it for weeks and was a bit late with the delivery--- I get to cut some of his fingernails this weekend. You have to remember that this is the child who is so far into biting his nails they are not even the right size anymore and he used to scrape the top layers off with his teeth when he had bitten too far down. I have not clipped his fingernails since he was 3 and he will turn seven in another month or so. This weekend I will clip some of his nails for the first time in 4 years! It has taken great restraint on his part to get this far. Hoping summer relaxes him even more and D can clip them for his birthday in August too.
Had my doctor's appointment for my hair loss. Doctor was not my favorite ever but he is my source if I want/need to keep going for injections to stop the loss. I got one round of shots and remembered why I stopped doing them. Being someones pincushion is uncomfortable. The next day my head feels bruised and I get a whopper of a headache. I will keep you updated if they actually did anything.
One week until school is out. See, I managed to say that in a calm even voice and didn't even quake with fear.
